No, Prop 429 is a renewal of a budget override that our community has had in place since 2014. Your current tax rate will NOT go up if approved.

If the override extension is not approved, TVUSD would have to cut approximately $2.3 million from its budget over three years.

Funds raised from Prop 429  go towards: smaller class sizes, teacher salaries, career and technical education, elementary STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics), elementary physical education, school nurses, and much more.

No, the district has not overspent its budget. School districts may ask voters for an increase of up to 15

percent of their “revenue control limit” (Maintenance and Operations Budget) for a term of seven years for staffing and programs. This funding must be renewed (or continued) by a local vote. TVUSD is asking for voter approval of the budget override that is currently in place.

Maintenance and Operations Overrides are used to provide additional funding to support people and programs. School districts may ask for an increase of up to 15% of their revenue control limit for a term of seven years. Bonds are similar to loans that are authorized by voters and used to purchase capital items and/or make

capital improvements to existing facilities, such as building or renovating a school or purchasing school buses. The funding can only be used to fund projects that have a useful life longer than five years. Funds from a bond cannot be used for employee compensation.

The community will vote on Proposition 429 on November 3, 2026. The deadline to register to vote is October 5, 2026 and early voting will start on October 7, 2026. For more election information, contact
